Point of View: Businesses may pay price as CARES Act saps workforce
Modern medicine cures diseases, controls chronic conditions and saves lives. Frequently, there can be mild side effects that most of us don’t mind, but, sometimes, the side effects can be worse than the disease.
Watching the COVID-19 pandemic unfold, we are learning that modern medicine and public policy can be similar when it comes to unintended consequences.
Because of the disease, hundreds of thousands of people have gotten sick and tens of thousands have died. Unlike previous outbreaks, COVID-19 has extended its wrath beyond humans, and is attacking our economy, closing businesses, throwing millions out of work and battering financial markets.
